Featured Farmer!

Hi all, my name is Lucy! I have been working at Rocky Creek Farm for about a year now. I started on the farm with the education program last fall, as I have a passion for outdoor education and helping kiddos find a love for being outside. This summer season, I am the Flower Team Leader, and it has truly been a joy to take a deeper dive into the farming world!

In a normal week of flower farming here at RCF, we spend time designing and making bouquets, harvesting flowers, and weeding! We also get flowers ready for weddings/events, and create bouquets that are sold in local stores and our market stand. We usually harvest our flowers in the mornings when the weather is cooler and crisp, and create bouquets in the afternoons to take a break from the summer heat!

Working with flowers has allowed me to find a new creative outlet that brings me so much joy. Our team has so much fun on the days that we get to create bouquets, and it has been really neat to see that even with the same flowers being used, each bouquet turns out a bit different depending on the person making it! Flower farming has also taught me about patience - we are in that sweet spot of the season right now where we are seeing the fruits of our labor coming in beautiful, bright, colorful blooms, but it took time and work to get here! A big hooray that the peak of the season is just beginning :)

If you are interested in learning more about flowers, flower farming, or just sharing in our joy and love for these beautiful plants, come to our U-Pick during our market stand hours, and stay tuned for our specialty U-Pick events and bouquet making workshops later this season!

Although I am biased to the flower side of farming, Iā€™m a big veggie lover as well! I have been obsessed with making this spicy cucumber salad this summer - give it a try with some of the ingredients in your CSA box this week!
