It is really starting to feel like fall out there! We have gotten so lucky this year to have had so many beautiful fall days. Fall season is still in full swing here on the farm - this coming weekend is already our final weekend of Fall Festival activities! Come out to grab your final pumpkins, apple cider, and apple cider donuts before Halloween!
Preparations for the winter season are fully underway here as our fall season comes to a close! We finished our work in the flower field for the season this week by taking out remaining hortonova netting from our snap dragons and sweet peas and removing the plastic from our dahlia beds. The field is officially ready to be mowed and dried flower season can begin!
We have also been at work preparing squashes, cabbages, beets, and carrots for bulk storage for the winter. You can look forward to these amazing fall and winter veggies in your CSA boxes throughout the winter season. Garlic planting also took place on the farm this week. It is beneficial to plant garlic in the fall because the colder temperatures promote growth of bigger cloves and bulbs.
Recipes:
The cooking hack we have for you this week involves an awesome fall veggie - spaghetti squash! My favorite way to eat spaghetti squash is to use it as a substitute for rice noodles in a pad thai or a peanut sauce noodle dish! You can make your recipe as normal with sauce, veggies, or proteins and just replace the rice noodles with the roasted spaghetti squash!
