This week we have our crew member Lauren telling you about her experience with us.

I have been a member of the Rocky Creek Farm Education Team/ Farm Crew since May 2020, allowing me to experience Gallatin Valley farming year round. Over the past year I have been able to educate area youth on the ins and outs of organic farming alongside nature, as well as the importance of understanding where food comes from. It is always exciting to see returning faces to Farm Camp and Farm School. The kids have so much joy and energy here on the farm and I am very grateful to get to share that with them. Getting to know the Bozeman community has been the highlight of my time at the farm. People here share my passion for food and flowers, so experiencing that with them has been very rewarding. When I’m not working, I am usually with my pup Cece, checking out the trails in the Greater Bozeman Area. I hope to see you around. Here are some of my favorite moments on the farm:

We wanted to remind you all that basil and tomatoes can be left out of the fridge, maybe in a cool spot on the counter. The fridge is too cold for them and they will go bad quickly. I also wanted to mention we have the Farmstand open on Tuesday from 9-6 and Saturday 9-1 for your produce needs. It is getting to be peak season so we have lots of variety as well as meat for sale! Primarily chicken, pork roasts and kielbasa/brats. I’ve been dreaming of making carnitas this past weekend. Plus crockpot food is so simple for summertime schedules!

For a recipe this week I enjoy roasting the shishito peppers over an open flame/bbq and eating them alongside burgers, salads and even tacos. If you are grilling, you could take the potatoes wrapped in foil with either a spoonful of coconut oil or a big slab of butter, seasonings and roast until tender. It could take 30 mins but its worth it!

Cheers friends, Alley
