Whole Farm CSA- Week of May 15th

Half and Full Share: Lettuce Mix with Edible Blossoms, Hon Tsai Tai, Broccolini, Garlic, Microgreens, Mint

All of us farmers took full advantage of the dry weather and got more flowers in the ground this week as well as all our celery and celeriac! We also welcomed piglets and honey bees back to the farm! So lots of exciting things are in motion with the turn of the seasons! Things are starting to grow and you will be getting more new exciting stuff in the upcoming boxes! For example… new to this week’s CSA is the Hon Tsai Tai which is a species of Chinese flowering cabbage and is also known more commonly as purple choy sum! The leaves are very similar to the taste of spinach and broccoli leaves and when they go to bloom their flowers add a hint of mustard. While cooking, the stems will keep their wonderful deep purple color and crunch!

the cutest cuddle puddle!

And if you ask me, this CSA box is just begging to be turned into a in a stir fry! Get some good quality noodles, scramble up a few of your farm fresh eggs, grab some pork from the market stand (or your full share monthly meat pack!), sautée the Hon Sai Tai, chop up that broccolini along with our garlic and some ginger for that added flavor! Then top it all off with some microgreens and you’ve got a quick and easy dinner that always makes great lunch leftovers. No stir fry is complete without a good sauce so this is usually my go to and can be tweaked really easily to be made sweeter or saltier:

-about 1/2 cup of soy sauce

-1/2 cup of chicken broth or veggie broth

-1/4-1/2 cup of oily runny peanut butter

-about a tbsp toasted sesame oil

-a bit of rice vinegar

-about a tbsp of honey or maple syrup

-a bunch of ginger, i usually grate about 3 inches

-4 garlic cloves (I really like garlic!)

-and a little bit or cornstarch

add the sauce to your stir fry and let it thicken for a bit! Then you’re good to go!

Our season is starting to ramp up and we still have some key positions that need filling! So if you know of anyone looking to spend time outdoors in a beautiful place with lots of friendly animals and people please refer them to our employment page here!
