Here is a little box of summer and fall starting to mix together, and a note from Jake, one of our hard working crew this summer!

If you don’t plan to use your Aronia Berries right away just put them in the freezer and add them to Smoothies all winter. I recently found this site that is all things Aronia Berry and has several smoothie recipes.

Enjoy- Jacy

Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer, and has been able to enjoy all off the produce that we have worked hard to grow! My name is Jake Stryker, and I have been primarily responsible for irrigating the produce this summer. My job here on the farm has included tasks like moving hand-line irrigation pipe through the fields, troubleshooting issues like clogging and blowouts in said pipes, and having an understanding on how the two different irrigation pumps work. The dry conditions this summer have certainly kept me busy!

I am originally from Holland, Michigan, a town on Lake Michigan. I graduated from Montana State University with a degree in Biochemistry in the fall of 2020. I worked in a lab here in Bozeman after graduating for a few months, but realized that it really was not a good job for me, and I began working here at GVB in March. Outside of work, I really enjoy playing guitar and singing folk music, and I have been able to supplement my income by playing music on the streets of Bozeman on the weekend this summer. My other hobbies include running, yoga, and strength training.

This week, the tomatoes are in full swing, and they will be included in the CSA. This weeks CSA will also include aronia berries. Aronia berries are potent in health benefits, which include cancer fighting properties, and improved organ health. These berries are found unpalatable by some, so I would recommend blending them in a smoothy, making them into a jam, or (for the more adventurous) brewing wine. These berries have attracted some unwelcome visitors to the farm, a black bear has been seen roving around the farm!
